Leonardo Helicopters is progressing towards launching its new AW09 light single-engine helicopter. After fifteen years since its initial mockup, the company has been conducting extensive testing with its serial aircraft, S6, to validate performance and reliability.

The development journey involved startups Marenco and Kopter Group, but Leonardo has now positioned the AW09 for certification and market entry later this year. The helicopter is designed for utility, training, and private transportation roles, with an emphasis on ease of maintenance, operational cost efficiency, and advanced avionics systems.

This milestone signifies a substantial achievement for Leonardo Helicopters, aiming to expand its market offerings and technological competitiveness within the aviation sector. Industry analysts anticipate that once certified, the AW09 will compete effectively with other light helicopter models globally.
