Qatar-based Lesha Bank has expanded its aviation leasing operations through the acquisition of a 33-aircraft portfolio from Dublin-based leasing company Avolon. Announced on September 28, the deal brings Lesha’s managed fleet to over 75 aircraft and is part of the bank’s strategic focus on building a diversified, income-generating leasing portfolio in the aviation sector.

The transaction was executed via an investment structure on behalf of Lesha Aviation Fund. Details regarding the aircraft types, lessee airlines, or financial terms were not disclosed. This acquisition signals a strengthening of the relationship between both entities and provides Lesha with greater market presence and portfolio diversification.

Moohammed Ismail Al Emadi, CEO of Lesha Bank, commented that the purchase reflects a disciplined approach to scaling in aviation leasing and expects stable, diversified returns. According to Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon, this significant transaction underscores the robust investor demand for aviation assets and aligns with Avolon’s strategy of portfolio management and capital recycling.

Lesha Bank’s expansion aims to deepen its presence in key markets and support its Sharia-compliant leasing platform, with aircraft management to be handled by Lesha Aviation Services. As of June 30, Avolon worked with 138 airlines across 60 countries and managed a fleet of 1,117 aircraft, reinforcing its position as a major global lessor.
