At the Dubai Airshow, Lockheed Martin unveiled a new version of its Sniper Networked Targeting Pod (NTP) designed to improve secure data sharing among military aircraft. The enhanced pod includes a blister fairing housing radios and processors that allow fighters such as the F-35 and F-16 to exchange target data securely, even when operating outside each other's engagement zones.
This development addresses longstanding issues with incompatible and insecure communication links, notably the reliance solely on the Link 16 radio. Utilizing existing networks such as MADL and MANET radios, the new system acts as a translator that can relay data across different platforms without requiring the invention or certification of new communication systems, leveraging technology developed since 2014 through DARPA projects.
By enabling fighters to share real-time targeting data reliably and securely, this technology offers a significant leap forward in interoperability for military operations. It exemplifies an evolution from theoretical digital
