Lufthansa Unveils Special Livery on Boeing 787-9 for Centenary
Lufthansa has introduced a new aircraft featuring a specially designed livery to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The airline received its first Boeing 787-9 painted in this commemorative scheme on December 23, 2025, at Frankfurt International Airport. The aircraft, registration D-ABPU, was delivered from Everett, Washington, and showcases a dark blue fuselage with a prominent white crane symbol across its length.
The airline’s CEO, Jens Ritter, emphasized the significance of this milestone, describing the aircraft’s arrival as a memorable moment. Although Lufthansa was officially founded in 1953, it traces its origins back to the original Lufthansa founded in 1926. The current aircraft’s livery aims to connect the airline’s present with its rich history, which is also marked by the original company’s founding date of January 6, 1926.
Lufthansa has announced plans to paint five more aircraft in this special livery during 2026, including models such as the Airbus A380 and Airbus A350-1000. The design reflects the airline’s heritage and a commitment to celebrating its long-standing legacy while embracing modernity.
This initiative highlights Lufthansa’s approach to integrating historical symbolism into its contemporary branding, reinforcing its position as a leading European carrier with a storied past and a focus on future expansion.
