Madhya Pradesh is preparing for a significant expansion of its aviation infrastructure, with plans to establish ten airports within the next two years. This initiative follows the recent inauguration of a renovated terminal at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore, which aims to increase passenger capacity and improve regional connectivity.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted that construction of new airports at Ujjain and Shivpuri will be completed soon, bringing the total count in the state to ten. The upgrades at Indore, costing Rs 50 crore, have resulted in a capacity to handle 50 lakh passengers annually, serving over 100 flights daily.
New Infrastructure and Connectivity Schemes
The government is also developing additional airstrips and upgrading existing ones under regional connectivity schemes. An emphasis is placed on building new airstrips at Shahdol, Neemuch, Chhindwara, and Mandla, with plans to construct one every 145 km across the state to expand aviation facilities further.
"This expansion will improve regional connectivity and facilitate economic development,"
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu joined remotely to inaugurate the upgraded infrastructure, emphasizing the role of these developments in boosting air travel and regional integration. The increased flight operations and infrastructure investments mark a strategic move to establish Madhya Pradesh as a more accessible and connected region.
Overall, these efforts aim to bolster the state's aviation capacity, enhance passenger convenience, and support economic growth through improved regional links.
