Malaysia is making significant strides in unmanned aviation technology with a new strategic partnership between MHS Aviation and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop and support the country’s UAS ecosystem, aligning with the Malaysian government's Airspace Sandbox initiative introduced in Budget 2026.
This collaboration focuses on fostering research, training, and operational deployment of unmanned aircraft, especially Beyond Visual Line of Sight capabilities. Both parties aim to establish regulatory frameworks and operational standards, while seeking approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, to facilitate the growth of autonomous flight solutions in civil and defense sectors.
Industry and Academic Synergy
Mohd Fakhrul Arifin Adinan, CEO of MHS Aviation, highlighted the importance of building future-ready aviation capabilities that support national priorities. Boustead Holdings and UniMAP leaders emphasized that the partnership will not only enhance technological innovation but also foster high-skilled talent development and reinforce Malaysia's regional leadership in drone and autonomous aviation technology.
"Together, we are laying the foundation for scalable unmanned solutions that will transform Malaysia's aerospace landscape," said Mohd Fakhrul Arifin Adinan.
This initiative underscores Malaysia’s dedication to advancing unmanned systems, blending academic research with industry practices to ensure a safe and innovative future for the country's aviation sector.
