Malaysia Airlines is actively expanding its network within China, experiencing a 27% rise in passenger traffic during the first half of this year. The airline carried more than 600,000 passengers on its China routes and expects to handle over 52,000 during the upcoming Golden Week holidays, representing substantial growth from previous years.
Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and CEO of Malaysia Aviation Group, highlighted the airline's confidence in China’s market, noting the addition of new gateways such as Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Changsha. The airline's fleet operating in China includes Boeing 737-800 aircraft, supporting these new routes and increased frequencies.
Strategic Digital Collaborations
Alongside route expansion, Malaysia Airlines has enhanced its digital engagement with Chinese technology giants, formalizing agreements with Huawei Technologies, TravelSky Technology, and Weixin Pay. These partnerships aim to improve the digital travel experience and facilitate smoother transactions for Chinese customers.
"The expansion of our network to nine gateways reflects our confidence in its long-term potential,"
said Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar.
The airline also plans to launch daily flights to Kunming through its sister airline, Firefly, subject to regulatory approval, providing seamless connectivity between Malaysia and Yunnan. These initiatives underline Malaysia Airlines’ strategic commitment to growing its footprint in China and leveraging digital opportunities to enhance customer experience.
