Malaysian aviation authorities have issued safety advisories for the ongoing Tropical Storm Senyar, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall, turbulence, and visibility issues across Peninsular Malaysia. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has urged airlines, airport operators, and pilots to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols during this weather event.
Chief Executive Officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud emphasized the importance of monitoring weather advisories from the Malaysian Meteorological Department and conducting thorough pre-flight risk assessments. He recommended that flight crews plan for alternative routes, comply with turbulence protocols, and coordinate closely with air traffic control for real-time information and updates. Safety measures include monitoring water accumulation on runways and suspending ground handling and refueling during lightning activity.
Earlier, the director-general of MetMalaysia, Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, indicated that Tropical Storm Senyar could generate winds of up to 50 kph and deposit around 300mm of rain over 24 hours. The storm's impact poses significant challenges to aviation safety, requiring heightened vigilance and adherence to safety procedures at all operational levels to mitigate risks associated with turbulence, microbursts, and reduced visibility.
