There are approximately 1,600 Malaysian Umrah pilgrims stranded in Saudi Arabia due to recent flight cancellations and disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Malaysian Consulate General in Jeddah has confirmed reaching most of these pilgrims, who are currently in Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah. Fortunately, the consulate reports that their condition remains good and that there have been no untoward incidents.

Most of the affected pilgrims were scheduled to fly home on Malaysia Airlines, along with Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Etihad. Direct flights from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur via Saudia Airlines remain available, supplemented by limited AirAsia services. Many pilgrims and their agents have proactively switched to Saudia Airlines, and some groups have already successfully returned to Malaysia. Additionally, Malaysia Airlines has provided accommodations for those affected, demonstrating support during this disruption.

The Malaysian consulate has established a 24-hour operations room to monitor the situation and offer assistance, including coordinating temporary accommodations for stranded Malaysians. Among those helped are 19 Malaysian students held in Jeddah due to Jordan's airspace closure. These students have been provided with temporary housing at the consulate and arranged serviced apartments, with some departing for Malaysia on a chartered bus this morning.

The consulate continues to stay in close contact with Saudi authorities and is evaluating the need for special flights should the conflict persist. The broader regional conflict has led many countries to restrict their airspace, resulting in major disruptions to flight schedules to and from Middle East hubs, including Saudi Arabia. Airlines are working to find operational solutions amid the uncertain and evolving situation.
