The Malaysian government has introduced targeted measures to support and stabilize its aviation industry during a period of geopolitical uncertainty. The Ministry of Transport, along with CAAM and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, announced financial assistance, restructuring options, and incentives aimed at ensuring the continued operation of domestic air routes, especially those connecting Peninsular Malaysia with Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that a government allocation of RM5 million has been designated for a flight ticket rebate program benefiting 100,000 travelers. This initiative, effective from May to June 2026, seeks to promote air travel amid current challenges.
Additional Support Measures
Other measures include extending the payment deadlines for navigation fees and charges by up to 60 days, providing exemptions on aircraft parking fees, and deferring Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) and Common Infrastructure Charges (CIC) for two months. These efforts are aimed at supporting the cash flow of aviation operators and ensuring industry stability.
The government’s interventions underline its commitment to fostering resilience within the aviation sector, which remains vital to Malaysia’s tourism growth and economic development, particularly in navigating the impacts of geopolitical disruptions.
