BeOnd, a Maldives-based airline that operates exclusively in business class, is exploring a significant expansion into the US market through a new strategic partnership with American charter airline New Pacific. The airline’s plan involves establishing BeOnd America, which will offer transcontinental flights within the United States, utilizing a small fleet of modified Airbus aircraft previously used by EasyJet. These jets are configured to carry only business class seats, aiming to provide luxury travel at around half the price of conventional business fares.
Despite the innovative concept, the airline faces considerable hurdles. With only two aircraft at its disposal, BeOnd’s operational capacity could be limited, raising concerns about its ability to serve multiple routes across the US effectively. Financial viability is also a concern, given the high costs associated with maintaining and operating such aircraft while offering premium services like catering and amenities.
The partnership with New Pacific is essential for access to US-based aircraft and operational resources, and the company’s strategy hinges on leveraging its existing aircraft, the Airbus A321, with 68 all-business seats. If the expansion proceeds successfully, BeOnd would become the second all-business-class airline to operate flights into the US, following La Compagnie.
This move underscores a broader trend toward offering affordable luxury travel options, driven by niche airlines seeking to serve high-end markets with lower-cost models. The future of BeOnd’s US expansion will depend on its ability to overcome fleet and profitability challenges while maintaining service quality, potentially influencing the landscape of premium air travel.
