Maldivian will introduce a weekly scheduled charter flight connecting Malé and Melbourne Airport starting May 17, 2026. The seasonal route is operated in collaboration with Luxury Escapes, a luxury tour operator, which will sell tickets as part of travel packages including hotel stays. The airline will deploy its Airbus A330-200 aircraft for this service, marking the only direct connection between the Maldives' capital and Australia. The flight aims to serve Maldivian's expanding international network, which currently includes 30 destinations and 56 routes from its base in Malé, with 86 daily flights.

This new route represents a strategic move to strengthen Maldives-Australia connectivity, catering to both leisure and expatriate travelers. Maldivian’s plans include maintaining a consistent schedule and operational partnership to ensure service availability and quality. The airline’s fleet of 26 aircraft mainly comprises wide-body jets suited for long-haul, seasonal routes.

Strategic Expansion and Market Impact

According to airline officials, the seasonal operation will optimize peak travel periods and capitalize on incremental demand. The route's debut coincides with Maldivian’s broader network development efforts, supporting growth in tourism and international business activities. The airline sees this as part of its ongoing expansion, aligning with Maldives' efforts to boost tourism and global connectivity.
