Melbourne Airport has added a new airline, Hong Kong Airlines, to its roster, marking a significant expansion of its international connectivity. The airline's inaugural flight arrived over the weekend aboard an Airbus A330, which will operate three weekly services between Melbourne and Hong Kong. The route introduces more than 93,000 seats annually, offering increased options for both business and leisure travelers. The arrival of Hong Kong Airlines underscores the strong demand for travel between Australia and Asia, with Melbourne seeing its busiest international month on record in November 2025, with over one million passengers processed.

Jim Parashos, Chief of Aviation at Melbourne Airport, highlighted the importance of this new service, emphasizing its role in strengthening Melbourne’s position as a gateway to Asia. Tony Ma, Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines, remarked on the significance of the route in expanding the airline’s network and promoting connectivity between Hong Kong and Australia. The service’s launch is supported by expanded bilateral air traffic agreements, which have facilitated higher passenger traffic and new routes, reflecting confidence in the demand for international travel.

This development solidifies Melbourne's reputation as a key international hub, fostering tourism, trade, and cultural exchange with Hong Kong and the broader Asian region, and supports the ongoing recovery and growth in global travel demand.
