Mexicana has announced the delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2 aircraft on May 2, 2026, marking a significant step in its fleet expansion. The aircraft, registered XA-MXF with msn 19020219, operated a flight from São José dos Campos U.E. Stumpf International to Mexico City via Manaus International, according to ADS-B data. This delivery is part of the airline’s broader fleet plan, which includes acquiring six additional E190-E2s throughout 2026, each with a capacity of 108 passengers.

Mexicana launched operations in late 2023, initially operating a fleet of three B737-800s leased from the Mexican Air Force and two E145s from TAR México, aiming to grow its fleet to 50 aircraft by 2050. The new E190-E2s will complement existing aircraft including five Embraer E195-E2s, reflecting a strategic move towards more fuel-efficient regional jets.

Future Fleet and Strategic Outlook

The airline plans to receive a total of 14 aircraft in 2027, including three E190-E2s and five E195-E2s, completing an order placed with Embraer in 2024 for twenty E2 jets. This expansion aligns with Mexicana’s vision to enhance connectivity within Mexico and to international destinations, utilizing modern aircraft technologies.

Founded as a virtual carrier, Mexicana operates with a focus on regional and domestic routes from México City Felipe Angeles and aims to establish a significant footprint within the Mexican aviation sector over the coming years.
