Middle East Airlines (MEA) has announced the upcoming launch of a new low-cost carrier named FlyBeirut, with operations anticipated to begin in 2027. This strategic move was confirmed by MEA’s Director of Industry Affairs Rabih E. Azar on November 13, 2025, indicating that the project is still in its early development stages.

The new airline aims to augment MEA's service offering by providing more affordable flight options to travelers. Although detailed plans regarding routes and fleet are yet to be disclosed, the initiative reflects MEA's effort to adapt to industry trends and market demands amidst competitive pressures.

"We plan to launch the LCC in 2027. So it is still in its early days," Azar explained during the announcement. The project aligns with the broader industry pattern where established carriers are exploring low-cost operational models to appeal to a broader customer base in a challenging economic environment.

Experts believe that the launch of FlyBeirut could influence regional competition and passenger choices, contingent upon regulatory, logistical, and operational execution. The airline’s future development will depend on securing approvals, fleet decisions, and establishing an effective route network to ensure market entry success.
