Renewable solutions, especially in aviation, continue to evolve as companies like Neste and United Airlines expand their collaborations to promote sustainability. As of September 2026, the two companies have extended their agreements to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at key international airports in the United States and Europe.
The agreement facilitates SAF deliveries at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. United Airlines has been actively implementing SAF to reduce its environmental impact, using over 83,000 metric tons in 2025, which marks a significant increase over previous years. Their efforts include pioneering the use of blended SAF at Chicago and expanding usage at other hubs.
Strategic Partnership and Environmental Goals
This long-term partnership highlights a shared focus on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Experts note that SAF, produced from renewable raw materials like used cooking oil and animal fats, offers a substantial reduction in life cycle greenhouse gases compared to traditional jet fuels. The cooperation at these major airports demonstrates that SAF is a scalable and accessible solution for commercial aviation.
Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial at Neste, emphasized the significance of extending their collaboration with United. The partnership aims to further integrate SAF into daily operations and support the airline’s sustainability commitments. United’s extensive network and ongoing investments in alternative fuels exemplify the airline’s leadership in sustainable aviation practices.
