Santai Seaplane, a new subsidiary of Seaplane Asia, has announced the opening of its operational base at Banyuwangi Airport in East Java. The company plans to develop amphibious aircraft routes connecting East Java with Bali and neighboring islands, emphasizing sustainable and eco-friendly travel options. This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s broader goals of promoting responsible tourism and regional development.
Banyuwangi Airport, renowned for its environmentally conscious design, including features like a green roof and natural ventilation, serves as an ideal hub for these green aviation efforts. Company CEO Mr. Wirmandi Sugriat expressed optimism about future growth prospects, highlighting plans to expand routes to Bali’s North Menjangan, Lombok, and other destinations, offering new travel opportunities for both tourists and business travelers.
The amphibious operations aim to improve access to Indonesia’s most remote and ecologically sensitive areas while reducing the environmental footprint of regional travel. The routes are expected to enhance the tourism economy, create jobs, and support local businesses in East Java and Bali. The fleet will include luxury services, corporate flights, sightseeing tours, and charter options, providing tailored travel experiences over iconic landmarks such as Ijen and Bromo.
“Banyuwangi’s ecological infrastructure and strategic location make it an excellent base for expanding amphibious services,”
said Mr. Rahmat Adil Indrawan, Banyuwangi’s Regional Commercial Deputy. Industry figures from Seaplane Asia, including Chief Commercial Officer Michael Aumock, stressed that this move signifies a step toward a more sustainable and integrated regional air and sea transportation network.
Overall, the partnership aims to foster regional connectivity, support Indonesia’s sustainability commitments, and promote growth in tourism and local economies through innovative amphibious aviation solutions.
