Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority has called for increased investment and infrastructure development within the country’s aviation sector. During the Nigeria Aircraft Acquisition and Investment Summit 2026 held in Lagos, Director General Chris Najomo emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among regulators, financiers, and industry stakeholders to unlock the sector's potential.
Najomo highlighted Nigeria’s progressive policy environment, including the adoption of the Cape Town Convention and enforcement of IDERA, aimed at making aircraft leasing and financing more efficient. He also stressed the importance of expanding local MRO facilities to reduce reliance on foreign providers and improve operational efficiency.
Development and Human Capital Investment
The summit underscored the significance of investing in human capital, including training programs for pilots and engineers, to meet rising industry demands. Najomo described Nigeria’s aviation market as being well-supported by a data-driven regulatory framework, with airlines positioned to compete responsibly.
“Growth must be holistic. Without adequate maintenance capability, the benefits of fleet expansion will be limited,” said Najomo.
This initiative aligns with the broader Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to diversify Nigeria’s economy by leveraging aviation as a vital driver of trade, tourism, and connectivity.
