Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is set to open its gates to commercial flights this December, beginning with domestic services before expanding to international routes by mid-2026. The phased rollout aims to ensure operational safety and system stability, following a structured approach aligned with international standards. The airport is expected to become a key regional hub, easing traffic congestion at Delhi’s primary airport.
Airlines such as IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air have announced initial flight operations, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducting calibration flights to test navigation, lighting, and safety protocols. Once successful, the airport will progressively increase its flight schedules, including full-day and night operations, as per the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) framework.
Strategic Development and Regional Impact
The new airport boasts a capacity to handle up to 12 million passengers annually in its first terminal, with room for rapid expansion. Located near the Yamuna Expressway, it provides improved connectivity for residents of Noida, Greater Noida, Aligarh, Mathura, and Agra. Developed through a public-private partnership, the project reflects India’s focus on infrastructure and economic growth, with anticipated benefits including job creation and regional development.
This facility is poised to significantly reduce passenger load on Delhi’s main airport, contributing to a balanced and sustainable growth of the country’s aviation sector. Its phased approach highlights a commitment to safety, scalability, and future demand, marking a milestone in India’s ongoing expansion of air transport infrastructure.
