Wichita-based Ortega Aviation Services has announced the start of construction on a new $2.2 million turboprop training facility, named Turboprop Training Solutions (TTS). The facility aims to offer comprehensive pilot training, including initial, recurrent, and proficiency courses for single-engine turboprop aircraft, with operations expected to commence in spring 2027.
The project underscores Wichita’s continued prominence as an aviation hub, with the company’s leaders Teresa and Kirby Ortega emphasizing the importance of specialized pilot training in response to market demand. The groundbreaking event was attended by local officials and industry stakeholders, reflecting regional support for workforce development initiatives.
This new training center is expected to bolster the local aviation industry, creating jobs and attracting further investment. Ortega’s strategic focus on single-engine turboprop pilots aligns with technological advancements and the increasing operational needs in regional and corporate aviation sectors.
Molly McMillin, managing editor of business aviation for Aviation Week, noted that the facility would enhance Wichita's reputation as a center of aviation excellence. The company anticipates completing the construction and launching training programs by spring 2027, addressing a critical need for skilled pilots in the sector.
