The Singaporean authorities conducted a large-scale counter-terrorism exercise, Exercise Nexus Resolve, involving over 1,000 personnel from various security agencies, including the police, Singapore Armed Forces, Civil Defence Force, and key aviation entities. The two-day drill took place at the Home Team Tactical Centre and Changi Airport on May 5 and 6, aiming to test and strengthen national preparedness against terrorism threats.
The simulated scenarios included armed attacks in public spaces, hostage situations, aircraft hijacking, and the detection of improvised explosive devices. Coordination among agencies was a core focus, with police and SAF teams responding to complex threats, showcasing their ability to execute rapid and effective countermeasures.
At Changi Airport, aviation sector personnel worked alongside police and SAF teams to secure critical areas and ensure continuity of airport operations during the simulated incidents. The Civil Defence Force also demonstrated its capacity to manage mass casualty events under tight timeframes. Experts and officials highlighted the importance of regular training exercises to maintain high readiness levels and public confidence.
"Such exercises are critical in enhancing national preparedness against security threats,"
said Assistant Commissioner of Police M. Malathi.She emphasized ongoing collaboration and training for all involved agencies to ensure swift and coordinated responses in real emergencies.
The exercise demonstrated the capabilities and teamwork of Singapore's security agencies and the aviation sector in responding to terrorism threats, reinforcing Singapore's commitment to safeguarding its citizens and infrastructure.
