Singapore’s SATS Group and Panama’s Tocumen International Airport have formalized a memorandum of understanding to bolster air cargo links between Asia and the Americas. This partnership aims to explore opportunities for improving cargo connectivity, leveraging Singapore’s logistics expertise to benefit Panama’s strategic location.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony attended by officials from both countries, including the President of Panama and the Prime Minister of Singapore. As part of the collaboration, SATS, a major ground handling provider based in Singapore, and Tocumen International Airport are assessing joint initiatives to optimize cargo operations and expand freight throughput.
Significance for Regional Connectivity
"This partnership underscores our commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and fostering international trade,” said Kerry Mok, CEO of SATS. “Together, we aim to develop efficient, reliable air cargo solutions that connect Asia with the Americas." The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for airlines and logistics companies, facilitating more seamless and rapid cargo transport across continents.
Panama’s Tocumen Airport, a vital hub in Latin America, anticipates that this partnership will further strengthen its role as a key transshipment point, supporting increased economic activity and international trade flows. The agreement aligns with Panama’s broader strategy to expand its logistics and transport infrastructure as part of its development goals.
