Filipino airlines, including PAL Express, Cebu Pacific, CEBGO, Philippine Airlines, and Philippines AirAsia, are optimistic about the sector's potential for growth. Their association, ACAP, underscores the industry's resilience and ongoing efforts to enhance safety, infrastructure, and regulatory standards in collaboration with stakeholders.
ACAP Chairman Carlos Luis Fernandez noted that despite past upheavals, the Philippine airline industry has demonstrated robustness, fostering tourism, trade, and economic development. Recent industry collaborations, such as sharing safety data and operational equipment, have helped reduce aircraft grounding times and ensure passenger convenience. In 2024, the five airlines moved over 44.6 million passengers, connecting the country with numerous international destinations across Asia, North America, the Middle East, and Australia.
Leadership and Industry Collaboration
The organization recently appointed Fernandez as its chairman and Lao as vice chairman to bolster industry partnerships. Jose Enrique Perez de Tagle, a seasoned airline professional, assumes the role of executive director, focusing on safety and sustainability initiatives. The industry’s focus remains on creating safer skies, greener operations, and improved travel experiences, fostering a positive outlook for Philippine civil aviation.
