Manila, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has expressed its support for regional efforts to develop Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as Southeast Asia endeavors to reduce carbon emissions in its aviation industry. This initiative was highlighted during the 26th ASEAN Energy Business Forum held on October 6, 2026, at the Philippine International Convention Center.
CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation to position the region as a leading hub for sustainable fuel production. "Rest assured that the Philippine government is working to establish enabling policies, infrastructure, and sustainable initiatives in coordination with regional partners. Through the National Biofuels Board SAF Technical Working Group, we are engaging communities, industry stakeholders, and development partners to ensure that our legal, institutional, and technical frameworks are future-ready," he stated.
Regional Forum and International Support
The forum, themed "Asean SAF Convergence Forum: Building the World 2s Next Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub," gathered government officials, representatives from the Department of Energy, private sector, and regional organizations. These stakeholders discussed strategies for advancing SAF adoption and infrastructure development across ASEAN member states.
According to CAAP, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regards SAF as vital for significantly reducing international aviation carbon dioxide emissions—up to 66 percent—highlighting its potential in combating climate change in aviation.
