Poland has implemented a temporary flight restriction zone (TRZ) along its eastern borders with Belarus and Ukraine, affecting both corporate and general aviation activities. Officially in force since 10 March 2026, the zone restricts non-state aircraft below FL150 within a 30-nautical-mile strip stretching from Suwałki to Przemyśl, until 9 June. The measure is reportedly driven by regional security concerns and has led to notable operational impacts. Several business jets have diverted to alternative airports such as Rzeszów, rather than Lublin, highlighting logistical challenges faced by the industry.

This restriction has caused increased en-route times, with flights from Berlin to Kraków experiencing an average delay of 14 minutes. Additionally, cargo operations at Warsaw's WAW airport have faced delays exceeding eight hours. Lufthansa Technik has expressed concern that the restrictions are shifting airfreight onto road transport across Poland, worsening traffic congestion that is already strained by the Ukraine blockade.

Operational and logistical implications

Multinational companies are advised to confirm slot availability at secondary airports like Rzeszów, Łódź, and Katowice due to increased general aviation activity. Passengers connecting through Warsaw should anticipate longer minimum connection times. High-value or time-sensitive cargo on passenger jets might require additional trucking legs or premium transport options through Leipzig, Germany.

"The zone is precautionary and subject to ongoing review," the Ministry of Infrastructure stated. Analysts note its alignment with NATO air-policing exercises scheduled over the Baltic States. Industry representatives have called for clearer TRZ entry procedures, especially for medical, diplomatic, and maintenance flights,"

Operators can utilize VisaHQ’s Poland portal to secure necessary visas and invitations promptly, decreasing last-minute delays. Meanwhile, flight planners must incorporate extra fuel and crew duty margins and verify ground handling availability at least 24 hours before departure to navigate these restrictions effectively.
