Porter Airlines is preparing to launch 12 new domestic routes from Montreal Metropolitan Airport (YHU) this summer, as it inaugurates its first passenger terminal at the airport. The new terminal, covering approximately 21,000 square meters and featuring nine boarding bridges along with 28 check-in counters, aims to establish a secondary gateway for the Montreal region. Operations are scheduled to begin on June 15, with flights to key Canadian cities including Calgary, Charlottetown, Edmonton, Halifax, Hamilton, Moncton, Quebec City, St. John’s, Toronto City, Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.
The airline plans to operate a mix of De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops and Embraer 195-E2 aircraft from this new facility, which is expected to improve its Montreal capacity by about 91% during peak summer months. Porter Airlines will continue maintaining its operations at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), adopting a strategy that leverages both airports within the region. The new terminal is developed and operated by YHU Infrastructure Partners, a joint venture between Porter Aviation Holdings and Macquarie Asset Management.
Strategic Expansion and Community Investment
Located in Longueuil, approximately 15 kilometers from downtown Montreal, the airport is designed to support domestic and short-haul flights, with scalability for future airline additions. Porter Airlines highlights that this expansion signifies a substantial private investment in the transportation infrastructure of Greater Montreal, providing travelers with increased flight options and community benefits.
