Australia's leading airline, Qantas, has launched the Qantas Group Safety Academy in partnership with RMIT University, aiming to develop future safety leaders through innovative micro-credentials. The initiative seeks to enhance safety culture and risk management expertise across various industries, including aviation, energy, and health. The program begins with four micro-credentials available online from January 2026, covering human factors, risk analysis, decision-making, and safety culture. Feedback from initial cohorts will shape additional offerings, with plans to introduce postgraduate qualifications in the future.

Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos from RMIT highlighted the collaboration's focus on industry-relevant training using advanced tools employed by aviation and safety industries. Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson emphasized the government’s emphasis on safety as a fundamental element of their operations, stressing the importance of cultivating safety-centric leadership. This Australian-first partnership signals a significant step toward elevating safety standards and fostering a new generation of safety-conscious professionals in multiple sectors.
