Qantas is undertaking its most comprehensive update to the Frequent Flyer program in its history, aligning with the airline's strong financial results for the first half of the fiscal year. The airline announced a record before-tax profit of $1.46 billion, driven by growth in domestic travel, a renewed fleet, and a boost in its loyalty revenue.
The program overhaul offers members new opportunities to earn Status Credits through ground activities, with up to 140 credits attainable per year through expenditure in various categories. Members will also be able to roll over a portion of unused credits into the next membership year, providing greater flexibility and reward retention. Changes affect tier requirements directly, with a move to single annual targets for status levels, simplifying the path to higher tiers.
Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson stated that these changes signify a new era for the loyalty program amid a shifting landscape, emphasizing the importance of status for frequent flyers. Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance remarked that the new rollover and earning features are landmark shifts, giving members more tangible value for their loyalty. Additionally, a new digital tool will soon allow members to search for Reward seats across Qantas and partner airlines over a 12-month window.
The airline's recent financial success is complemented by continued international and domestic growth, with Jetstar increasing its profitability by 38% domestically. The overall loyalty membership has expanded to more than 18 million, reflecting extensive engagement. Qantas also announced new routes, including a non-stop flight to Las Vegas, further strengthening its international service offerings.
