Qantas has announced that it will scale back Airbus A380 services on its North American routes during the 2026/27 winter season. The airline plans to reduce the Sydney-Los Angeles flights from daily operation to six times a week between 25 October 2026 and 27 March 2027. The affected flights include QF11, departing Sydney at 11:15 and arriving in Los Angeles at 06:00, with the return QF12 leaving Los Angeles at 20:25 and arriving in Sydney at 06:25 two days later.

In addition to the adjusted Sydney-Los Angeles route, Qantas is shifting its Sydney-Dallas Fort Worth service from Airbus A380s to Boeing 787 Dreamliners on alternating weekdays within specific periods, including March 6-22 and July 31-August 21. This change marks a significant move from the previously mixed operation of A380s and 787s on this route.

Despite these operational reductions, Qantas has reaffirmed its commitment to the Airbus A380, planning to keep the aircraft in service into the early 2030s. The airline is also transitioning to newer-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A350-1000 and A350-1000ULR, which are part of its long-term fleet modernization and international expansion plans.
