Qantas has announced an expansion of its Airbus A380 flights on the Singapore-Sydney route, nearly doubling the frequency later this year. From December 7, thirteen of the airline's fourteen weekly services will utilize the superjumbo, offering increased capacity in its premium cabins, including First, Business, and Premium Economy. The aircraft features 14 First Class suites that transform into flat beds, 70 Business seats, and 60 Premium Economy seats, complemented by an onboard lounge accessible to premium passengers.
Nick McGlynn, the airline's Executive Vice President for Asia, highlighted the rising demand for premium travel and the airline’s move to maximize A380 usage on this route. This expansion also coincides with the return of the 'Twice as Rewarding' program, allowing frequent flyers to earn double points or status credits on flights, hotels, and holiday bookings during the promotion period from March 3, 2026, to February 12, 2027. The program has shown success, with some members reaching higher loyalty levels through previous offers.
Etihad Airways to Launch A380 Service to Bangkok
Meanwhile, Etihad Airways plans to deploy its first Airbus A380 on the Abu Dhabi-Bangkok route starting this October. The aircraft will feature The Residence, a three-room suite, First Apartments, and a luxurious Business Class cabin, providing significant capacity increases and a premium experience for leisure travelers. The move aims to strengthen connectivity between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with the aircraft transforming the journey into a destination by itself.
These developments reflect a broader trend among world carriers to introduce more substantial capacity and premium amenities, catering to the growing demand for luxury air travel. Both airlines are emphasizing comfort, exclusivity, and enhanced loyalty benefits to attract and retain high-value customers amid a competitive environment.
