Qantas has announced a new cabin product called Qantas Economy Plus, designed to improve passenger comfort on domestic flights. The feature offers seats with up to 40% more legroom and priority boarding, addressing complaints about the limited space available on the airline’s narrowbody aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A321LR. Starting from February 2026, these seats will be available on Airbus A321XLR, A220, and Boeing 737 aircraft operating within Australia, as well as to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

The airline plans to reconfigure its Boeing 737 fleet beginning in December, while new Airbus A321XLR and A220 aircraft will be delivered with extra-legroom seating already installed. The enhanced cabin offers amenities including in-flight entertainment, meals, snacks, beverages, and alcohol, maintaining Qantas’s high standards in domestic travel service. Airline Ratings CEO Sharon Petersen commended Qantas for heeding customer feedback, emphasizing the importance of improved seat pitch on transcontinental routes where space is often limited.

Industry and Customer Impact

This initiative reflects Qantas’s commitment to passenger comfort amidst a competitive travel sector. It provides an alternative to the standard 30-inch seat pitch, which many passengers find restrictive. Pricing details for the Economy Plus seats have not yet been disclosed, but the move signifies a notable step toward enhancing domestic air travel experience for taller passengers and those valuing extra comfort.

Overall, the new seating option aims to increase customer satisfaction and align with global standards for domestic narrow-body flights, positioning Qantas as a more accommodating carrier in Australia and regional markets.
