Qantas Group announced plans to reestablish a cabin crew base at Singapore Changi Airport later in 2026, reflecting its strategy to expand its international network and modernize its fleet. The decision follows the closure of Jetstar Asia Airways in July 2025, which allowed the airline to redeploy its Airbus A320-200 fleet within Australia and New Zealand, supporting domestic growth.
As part of its ongoing fleet renewal, Qantas accepted six new aircraft including Airbus A321-200NX(LR) models, which will operate on new international routes such as the Brisbane-Manila service set to start on October 25, 2026. The airline also plans to retire its older Boeing B737-800 fleet and refurbish Airbus A330s with new seats and entertainment systems, aligning its fleet with modern standards.
Additionally, Qantas has secured orders for Airbus A220-300s, Airbus A320-200N, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft, aimed at augmenting its capacity and operational flexibility across its various subsidiaries. The carrier is also expanding its freight operations, with Qantas Freight scheduled to open a new cargo facility at Sydney Nancy Bird Walton Airport and acquire Airbus A321-200(P2F) freighters within the year.
These initiatives represent Qantas’ commitment to strengthening its competitive position in international markets while optimizing its domestic operations, ensuring the airline remains agile amid evolving aviation demands.
