In a historic move, Qantas Airways will launch the world's first non-stop scheduled flights between Sydney, Australia, and Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning in December 2026. This new route aims to cater to the growing demand for direct international travel from Australia to the United States, significantly reducing travel time by up to five hours.

The airline has previously operated limited charter flights to Las Vegas, often in partnership with Australia’s National Rugby League, but this will be the first regular non-stop service connecting the two cities. The seasonal flights are scheduled from late December 2026 to mid-March 2027, coinciding with major events such as the Consumer Electronics Show.

Fleet and Route Expansion

Qantas’ expansion is supported by a fleet renewal program that includes the delivery of the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody aircraft. This model will help alleviate pressure on the airline’s widebody aircraft, including the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which will operate the Sydney to Las Vegas flights.

“Australians’ appetite for international travel continues to be incredibly strong,” said Cam Wallace, Qantas International chief executive. “Rome and Sapporo have shown us there’s real demand for seasonal services to destinations people want to visit at certain times of year, and we’re continuing to expand those direct connections around the world.”

Steve Hill of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority highlighted the importance of the new service, noting that despite the current lack of non-stop flights, Australia remains a top international market for Las Vegas. Last year, around 250,000 Australians visited the city, and the new flights are expected to considerably cut travel time from Sydney.

The scheduled service will operate three times weekly, with flights departing Sydney at 9:00 pm and arriving in Las Vegas at approximately 3:55 pm local time, providing a faster option for travelers and strengthening ties between Australia's largest city and the entertainment capital of the world.
