Qatar Airways announced the deployment of Starlink satellite internet technology across its Boeing 787 fleet, marking a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing passenger connectivity. The airline has already equipped three Boeing 787-8 aircraft with Starlink technology, making it the first airline globally to do so on this model.
The move allows Qatar Airways to offer the fastest in-flight Wi-Fi, with nearly 120 widebody aircraft expected to be fitted with the system, including additional 787s scheduled for installation. This upgrade underscores the airline's commitment to innovation and passenger satisfaction on long-haul flights.
Progressive Fleet Modernization
The Boeing 787 family plays a crucial role in Qatar Airways' fleet, with 58 aircraft delivered to date, comprising the 787-8 and 787-9 variants. The oldest models are now about 11.4 years old, while the newer 787-9s are approximately 3.7 years old. The aircraft fleet complements other models such as the Airbus A350, Boeing 777, and Airbus A380, forming a diverse global network.
Earlier in 2025, Qatar Airways completed rapid Starlink installations on its Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets, with the latter completed in just eight months. The connectivity service, available for over 10 million passengers in 2025, offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps, enabling seamless streaming and communication in flight. The airline aims to strengthen its position as a leader in in-flight services both regionally and globally, leveraging advanced technology solutions.
