Qatar Airways has announced temporary reductions in its global flight network attributable to scheduled runway maintenance at Doha Hamad International. The airline stated that the infrastructure upgrades are part of a long-term development plan scheduled for completion by early June 2026, resulting in a reduction of capacity during this period.
From April 13 to June 13, Doha Hamad International Airport will operate with a single runway, replacing the usual two. Consequently, Qatar Airways plans to decrease weekly flights by approximately 8.2%, with notable seat reductions on major routes such as London Heathrow, Colombo International, and Paris CDG.
Impact on Routes
The carrier's service to London Heathrow will see a 22.2% capacity reduction, decreasing from 4,818 seats to 3,644, with weekly flights declining from 66 to 48. Similarly, capacity reductions are also planned for Colombo and Paris, with seat decreases of 26.5% and 19.9%, respectively, and frequency adjustments from four to three daily.
Capacity data from ch-aviation indicates these measures are aligned with infrastructure upgrades while still maintaining extensive network coverage. Qatar Airways operates 395 aircraft, connecting 196 destinations with around 579 daily flights from Doha.
The airline emphasizes that these temporary restrictions are necessary for upgrading safety and operational infrastructure, with the goal of ensuring long-term service reliability. Continued updates are expected as the maintenance project progresses, aiming to minimize disruption and support future growth.
