Reliable Robotics has announced it will utilize its automation technology on its own cargo aircraft in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as part of a new contract with NASA. The project aims to conduct unmanned aircraft system (UAS) trials near airports and within controlled airspace across the United States.
The company’s Cessna 208B Caravan will be flight tested to demonstrate autonomous capabilities in real-world operational environments. This marks a significant development in NASA’s efforts to advance autonomous aircraft systems and facilitate their integration into the national airspace system.
According to Ben Goldstein, an expert on advanced air mobility and managing editor of Aviation Week Network’s AAM Report, this initiative reflects the growing emphasis on autonomous technology in commercial aviation. The trials are expected to improve safety and operational efficiency for future cargo and passenger flights without onboard pilots, supporting the broader goal of autonomous flight integration.
