A remote digital tower system at Bartow Executive Airport (BOW) in central Florida is setting a new standard for air traffic control systems in the United States, according to technology vendor Frequentis. The installation, scheduled to commence operations in July 2026, features the Frequentis X10 platform, allowing controllers to oversee airport activities remotely from a centralized operations center.

This innovative system employs high-definition cameras and advanced sensors, replicating the visual and operational aspects of a traditional tower. The adoption of remote towers is part of a broader move to digitize and modernize air traffic management, especially at smaller airports where building conventional towers may not be economically viable.

Bill Carey, a veteran journalist in aviation coverage, emphasized that such systems could transform the landscape of airport operations, making them more flexible, safe, and cost-effective. The Florida project exemplifies how remote tower technology can be a scalable solution for airports nationwide, providing enhanced situational awareness and operational efficiency.

This development aligns with ongoing efforts to leverage digital technology within the industry, promising improved safety standards and operational control. As the system prepares for its debut this summer, industry stakeholders are observing its performance closely to determine potential applications across the broader U.S. aviation network.
