In a significant development within the US regional aviation industry, Republic Airways and Mesa Air Group have announced the completion of their merger, creating a combined entity with a fleet of over 310 Embraer E-Jets. These aircraft operate under existing capacity purchase agreements with major US carriers, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.
The merger, initially announced on April 7, 2025, was approved by Mesa's shareholders on November 17, 2025. As a result, the consolidated company now holds about 88% of the ownership, with Mesa shareholders holding between 6% and 12%. Despite the merger, both carriers continue to operate under separate air operator’s certificates (AOC) and maintain their individual identities. However, they are now jointly listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol RJET.
Both airlines serve numerous routes, with their primary bases at Indianapolis International Airport and other key hubs across the United States. The combined fleet includes the Embraer E170 model, reflecting the focus on regional connectivity. The merger aims to strengthen operational efficiency and expand market reach, with future plans to optimize fleet utilization and network integration.
This consolidation signals ongoing industry restructuring amid challenging economic conditions and changing regulatory environments. Aviation experts believe that the merged entity will offer greater stability and enhanced service options for passengers, maintaining a competitive edge within the regional aviation sector.
