Rimini Airport (RMI) has outlined ambitious plans to develop a new low-cost carrier (LCC) base and establish a domestic route connecting to Rome. The airport’s leadership emphasizes expanding its airline partnerships, particularly with established carriers like Ryanair, Wizz Air, and easyJet, to increase route options and frequencies across Europe.

Leonardo Corbucci, the CEO, stated that securing a based aircraft from an LCC between 2027 and 2028 remains a top goal, although current capacity limits might adjust the timeline. In addition to the LCC hub, Rimini is focusing on improving domestic connectivity to boost its role as a regional transport gateway.

Investment and Infrastructure Development

The airport plans to invest €80 million in terminal upgrades, parking expansion, and surface access improvements, as part of a larger €200 million redevelopment project aimed at transforming Rimini into a key hub for the Emilia-Romagna region. The initiative aligns with the airport’s long-term strategy to attract both low-cost and higher-value carriers, enhancing its international connectivity through links to major European hubs such as Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, and Istanbul.

"The immediate goal is to expand our current airline portfolio and grow traffic within our catchment area," said Corbucci. "We believe that developing these routes and capacity will position Rimini as a more competitive regional hub."

This development follows Rimini Airport’s hosting of Routes Europe 2026, reinforcing its commitment to expanding network connectivity and regional aviation infrastructure. The strategic expansion aims to provide more flexible travel options and support economic growth in the region.
