Saskatchewan-based regional airline Rise Air has taken delivery of an ATR 72-600 aircraft, marking its debut as the first carrier in Canada to operate the latest ATR -600 series following certification in November. This delivery is part of a three-aircraft agreement signed in November 2024, with two additional ATR 72-600s scheduled to join the fleet in 2026 under leasing arrangements.

Rise Air’s President and CEO, Derek Nice, emphasized that the new ATR 72-600 will facilitate the delivery of modern, safe, and dependable transportation services to remote work sites and critical infrastructure projects across Saskatchewan. He highlighted that the aircraft's advanced features will improve passenger comfort and operational efficiency, helping to enhance regional connectivity in some of Canada's most challenging terrains.

Industry and Technological Significance

According to Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, CEO of ATR, the ATR 72-600 model offers notable fuel efficiency and reduced operating costs, making it ideal for connecting sparsely populated areas with sustainable service. She praised Rise Air’s pioneering role in introducing this aircraft to Canada, underscoring its potential to provide reliable, profitable, and environmentally-conscious links in remote regions.

Rise Air operates a fleet of 25 aircraft and employs over 330 personnel, serving 27 communities and remote industrial sites across northern Saskatchewan. The airline’s affiliate, Snowbird Aviation Services, supplies ground handling, fueling, de-icing, and cargo services at 12 regional airports, supporting its operational footprint nationwide.
