Rise Air, an Indigenous-owned airline operating in Saskatchewan, has achieved a significant milestone by introducing the first ATR 72-600 aircraft into Canada. This marks a major advancement for regional aviation in the country, aligned with Rise Air's fleet renewal efforts aimed at better serving remote and underserved communities. The ATR 72-600, known for its fuel efficiency and operational reliability, is part of a deal signed in late 2024, with the first aircraft delivered in early 2026. This move follows Transport Canada's certification of the aircraft series in November 2025, allowing Canadian operators to utilize these modern turboprops for the first time.

The newly introduced ATR 72-600 is equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW127XT engines, which produce up to 45% lower CO₂ emissions compared to similar regional jets. These engines also lower maintenance costs, offering both environmental and economic benefits. The airline's utilization of this aircraft highlights its commitment to sustainability and improved service in challenging environments, often involving short or unpaved runways. The aircraft's larger cabins and advanced cockpit technology enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency, staples for serving Canada's remote areas.

This development represents a significant shift in the regional aviation sector, with airlines now able to replace aging fleets with greener, more efficient aircraft, thereby improving connectivity and reducing environmental impact. The introduction of the ATR 72-600 by Rise Air signifies a broader move toward sustainable aviation practices in Canada, demonstrating how Indigenous-owned airlines are contributing to innovation and environmental responsibility in the industry.
