In 2025, RMIT University’s Aviation Academy set a new record by flying over 20,000 hours, marking its most active year to date. The expansion of its fleet and introduction of new training programs have contributed significantly to this milestone. The addition of four new aircraft has supported both academic and practical training, while approximately 60 students graduated from aviation degrees during the year.
International partnership programs also advanced, with near completion of the first VietJet Air cadet pilot cohort’s training. Furthermore, the academy launched its Safety Academy in collaboration with Qantas Group, broadening its safety and training offerings. Plans are underway to further enhance the training capacity through the introduction of new flight simulators and additional training agreements set for 2026.
Looking Forward
The academy is targeting an increase in flight hours to 25,000 in 2026, supported by continued fleet expansion, particularly in multi-engine aircraft categories. These developments reinforce RMIT University’s position as a notable driver in Australia’s pilot training sector.
