The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), a vital aeromedical organisation in Queensland, has placed an order with Textron Aviation for six King Air 260C aircraft. This move aims to modernise the RFDS fleet, replacing its existing fleet of King Air 200 models.

The first of the new aircraft, fully equipped with advanced aeromedical systems, is scheduled for delivery in 2028. The remaining five aircraft will follow over the subsequent four years. The King Air 260C offers enhanced performance, increased cruise speeds, and improved avionics, navigation, and safety systems compared to the current fleet.

Fleet Modernization and Technical Upgrades

HeliMods will handle the design and installation of the aeromedical systems for these new King Airs, building on previous modifications made to six King Air B360s. The RFDS operates a total of ten King Air B360 aircraft, supporting emergency medical missions across Queensland and beyond.

"This fleet upgrade represents a significant step forward in our operational capability, ensuring we can deliver enhanced medical services efficiently and reliably," said a spokesperson for Textron Aviation.

The RFDS’s move to modern aircraft underscores its commitment to providing high-quality aeromedical care and reflects ongoing investment in fleet safety and performance.
