The Royal New Zealand Air Force has entered into a six-year lease-to-purchase agreement with Air Lease Corporation to acquire two Airbus A321XLR aircraft, announced on November 21, 2025. This strategic move will replace two aging Boeing 757-200s, with the new aircraft set to arrive in 2028 and based at Auckland International Airport.

The project is valued at NZD620 million (approximately USD347.5 million), excluding operating costs over four years. The aircraft will enhance strategic troop and equipment transportation capabilities for the NZ Air Force.

The agreement underscores New Zealand’s commitment to modernizing its military fleet and expanding its operational capacity. The A321XLR will serve at the Auckland Whenuapai base, supporting the country's defense and logistical missions for years to come.
