Sarawak, a Malaysian state renowned for its diverse natural and cultural attractions, is strengthening its tourism connectivity with China through new direct airline routes and strategic partnerships. The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has collaborated with Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) to promote tourism and enhance accessibility from key Chinese cities. This initiative is part of Sarawak's broader strategy to position itself as an attractive destination for visitors during Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
During a recent seminar held in Beijing and Taiyuan, the collaboration was officially launched, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with northern Chinese markets. An essential feature of this partnership is the introduction of a direct flight route connecting Beijing, Bandar Seri Begawan, and Kuching, facilitated by Royal Brunei Airlines. This new aviation link aims to provide seamless travel options for Chinese tourists eager to explore Sarawak's rich cultural landmarks, eco-tourism destinations such as Bako National Park, and adventure tourism offerings.
Strengthening Industry Relationships
The seminar also facilitated key meetings between STB and major Chinese travel agencies and online platforms, including C-Trip and Qunar. These efforts aim to increase digital visibility and promote Sarawak's tourism products among Chinese consumers. Additionally, RBA sponsored flights to Kuching as part of promotional activities, encouraging travelers and travel agents to experience Sarawak firsthand.
“China remains a vital market for us. Our efforts in building strong, lasting relationships with partners in Beijing and Taiyuan include establishing direct routes,” said Dylan Redas Noel, STB’s Marketing Director for North Asia and New Markets. “This route between Beijing, Bandar Seri Begawan, and Kuching offers greater access for Chinese visitors to explore Sarawak’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.”
These developments align with Sarawak’s ambitions for sustainable tourism growth, highlighting eco-friendly attractions and cultural experiences. The strategic airline partnerships aim to boost international tourism, contribute to economic development, and position Sarawak as a premier travel destination in Southeast Asia.
With the launch of these routes and partnerships, Sarawak is making significant advances toward achieving its goals for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, capitalizing on international collaborations, digital marketing, and sustainable tourism. The state aims to attract a diverse range of tourists seeking authentic, eco-conscious experiences, while preserving its unique natural and cultural heritage.
