SAS, the Scandinavian airline, has been recognized as the most punctual airline globally for March 2026 according to Cirium’s latest report on airline performance. The airline achieved an on-time arrival rate of 89.75%, surpassing other major carriers such as Aeromexico and Iberia. This accomplishment underscores SAS’s operational reliability during a period often challenging due to adverse weather and geopolitical issues.
The recognition coincides with SAS’s 80th anniversary, reflecting its longstanding commitment to punctuality and service quality. The airline’s strong performance builds upon a successful previous year, when it ranked second in Europe and third worldwide for punctuality across the entire year.
Operational Strategies and Challenges
CEO Anko van der Werff noted that this achievement is a sign of the trust from customers and the dedication of SAS’s employees amidst complex operating environments. In March, Scandinavian airlines typically face weather-related challenges such as late-season snow and wind, compounded by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting global operations.
Despite these obstacles, SAS implemented various measures like tighter turnaround procedures, improved planning, and enhanced coordination, which contributed to its reliability. These efforts have resulted in more predictable scheduling and consistent punctuality, with ongoing investments to maintain and improve service efficiency.
