Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Sector Undergoes Major Expansion
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making significant investments in its aviation infrastructure, aiming to position itself as a global logistics and tourism hub by 2030. A cornerstone of this strategy is the development of the King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, which will feature six runways and nine passenger terminals, capable of handling over 100 million passengers annually. This project exemplifies the broader efforts to enhance connectivity and support diverse sectors, including tourism, business, and transportation.
In addition to Riyadh, airport upgrades are underway in Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah, with new facilities like Red Sea International Airport and NEOM Bay Airport to support emerging travel destinations. The expansion is driving opportunities across construction, aviation technology, logistics, hospitality, and commercial real estate. The Kingdom’s aviation fleet is also growing rapidly, with Riyadh Air being a notable new carrier, ordering over 120 aircraft to expand its operations.
Supported by approximately $100 billion in government and private-sector investments, the Saudi aviation industry is poised for substantial growth. The country targets 330 million passengers annually and 4.5 million tonnes of air cargo capacity by 2030, further integrating its position into international air routes and boosting domestic and international economic activity. These developments align with the broader Vision 2030 plan to diversify the economy and promote sustainable growth in multiple sectors.
