Singapore Airlines has announced plans to launch a new direct route between Singapore and Madrid, with a stop in Barcelona, starting October 26, 2026. The airline will operate this service five times weekly using its Airbus A350-900 fleet, marking a significant expansion of its European network. The new route will become the airline’s 15th European destination, replacing the current Singapore-Barcelona nonstop service which operates twice weekly, and replacing the Singapore-Milan Malpensa-Barcelona flights that will end from October 27.
The airline stated that the Madrid service will provide improved connectivity and increased frequency for travelers. Barcelona will serve as an intermediate stop, supporting route flexibility and operational efficiency, without being served as a standalone destination. This strategic move reflects Singapore Airlines' ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in Europe and meet rising passenger demand for direct flights to major European cities.
The additional frequency and new routing options are expected to enhance Singapore Airlines’ market position in Europe, particularly by linking Singapore directly to Madrid via Barcelona. The airline's spokesperson emphasized that the new service underscores their commitment to expanding their global network and providing more seamless travel options in the region.
