Singapore Airlines Group has reinforced its environmental sustainability strategies by making strategic investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the goal of reducing carbon emissions and attaining net-zero targets by 2050. The company has partnered with leading climate technology firms, including AetherFuels, Neste, and World Energy, to incorporate SAF into its operations, aiming for 5% of fuel consumption to be sustainable by 2030. Key initiatives include a memorandum of understanding with AetherFuels, supported by Temasek, which involves long-term purchase agreements for bio-jet fuel derived from waste carbon feedstock.

The airline also procured 1,000 tonnes of SAF produced at Neste’s Singapore refinery, reducing transportation-related emissions and strengthening Singapore’s green energy resilience. Due to current constraints on physical SAF supply, the group engaged in emissions reduction certificates with World Energy, which enables the company to retain the environmental benefits of SAF even if the fuel is used elsewhere.

Singapore Airlines is also participating in regional campaigns like the Green Fuel Forward launched by the World Economic Forum and GenZero to stimulate SAF demand. Additionally, the airline has shown interest in using waste cooking oil from Indonesia’s Nutritious Meals program as a potential bio-jet fuel feedstock, demonstrating an innovative approach to sourcing sustainable fuel and supporting social programs.

These efforts reflect a comprehensive strategy to address climate change and reduce the aviation industry’s environmental footprint, aligning with global commitments to sustainability and decarbonization. The company’s investments aim to position Singapore Airlines as a leader in sustainable aviation and innovation in green energy sourcing.
