Singapore Airshow 2026 Demonstrates Southeast Asia's Growing Aerospace Industry

The 2026 Singapore Airshow drew over 120,000 attendees during its trade and public days, underscoring the region's expanding aerospace sector. The event recognized Singapore's significant investments in aerospace, totaling approximately S$750 million since 2024, with Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong emphasizing the industry's role as a key engine for economic growth in Southeast Asia.

Industry experts highlighted Singapore's strategic position as a neutral, well-connected hub where Eastern and Western aerospace industries meet and collaborate. The show also showcased Singapore’s leadership in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), which now accounts for more than 10% of the global output—a milestone reflecting the country’s core industry strength.

Beyond traditional aircraft displays, the event emphasized technological innovation such as advancements in space exploration, artificial intelligence, and urban air mobility. The inaugural Space Summit attracted 300 companies, and discussions on commercial air taxis capable of operation within the next three to five years revealed industry shifts towards innovative urban mobility solutions.

Sustainable practices and policies also featured prominently. The industry is moving from aspiration to policy, with green fuels, carbon levies, and sustainability targets being actively implemented. AI is transforming aircraft design, maintenance, and deployment, signaling a digital revolution within aviation.

Overall, Singapore’s aerospace industry continues to grow as a regional hub for innovation, maintenance, and international collaboration, reinforcing its pivotal role in the Southeast Asian economic landscape.
